Earthquake of 4.1 magnitude hits Chhattisgarh’s Ambikapur

Earthquake of 4.1 magnitude hits Chhattisgarh’s Ambikapur

A 4.1-magnitude earthquake struck Chhattisgarh's Ambikapur district on Friday morning, India's National Center for Seismology said.

The earthquake struck around 10:30 a.m. at a depth of 12 km west of Ambikapur Ambikapur in Chhattisgarh, the agency said. "Magnitude: 3.9 Earthquake occurred on 24/03/2023, 10:28:32 IST, Lat: 23.08 and Long: 83.08, Depth: 10 km, Location: 12 km SW of Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh ,” he tweeted for the National Seismological Center.

Another earthquake of magnitude 4.0 struck Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh at 10:31 am, according to the agency.

On March 21, a 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan and shook parts of India. A magnitude 4.8 earthquake with its epicenter 76 km from Wangjing in Manipur struck the northeastern state earlier on March 12.

It is worth noting here that the areas that fall under Zone 5 - with the highest risk of high-intensity earthquakes - are the regions of Kashmir, West and Central Himalayas, North and Central Bihar, Northeast India, Rann of Kutch and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, parts of the Indo-Gangetic Plains (North Punjab, Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh, Terai, much of Bihar, North Bengal, Sundarbans) and Delhi fall under Zone 4, which is called the High Damage Risk Zone.
